Safety and NYPD Community Affairs
Officers Lazar, Jones and Chopra at our 2026 annual meeting
NYPD Community Affairs and its "Q Team" are now shouldering quality of life requests from residents of the city. The Q Team is a specialized police unit deployed across all boroughs to address non-emergency, quality-of-life complaints. They handle issues like illegal e-bikes/mopeds, abandoned vehicles, homeless encampments, outdoor drug use, and noise complaints. The program operates in coordination with the NYPD Quality of Life Division.
Continue to dial 911 for emergencies that need immediate police, fire or medical help — like a fire, downed power lines or serious injury. It's for urgent situations where people's lives or property are at risk.
Use 311 for non-emergency city services — like reporting road obstructions, fallen tree limbs and electrical outages.
