October 9, 2025 | Bloomingdale Bites: Movie Trivia and Good Local Eats
By Amy Edelman
Start boning up on your movie trivia! The folks from the Upper West Side Cinema Center will be our special guests at the upcoming Bloomingdale Bites on Thurs., Oct. 9, 6–9 p.m., generously hosted by Hostelling International, 891 Amsterdam Ave. While we feast on dishes offered by an array of local restaurants, Ira Deutchman and Beth Krieger will give an update on their project to turn the old Metro Theater into a five-screen independent film center, show a short video, and then move on to the main event: a trivia contest centered around New York City and film. Bloomingdale Bites, a joint undertaking of our Block Association, the West 104th Street Block Association, and the Columbus-Amsterdam BID, offers a chance for neighbors to come together for dinner, socializing, and entertainment.
Those who attended our last Bloomingdale Bites trivia night, which focused on New York City history, will recall a merry but hard-fought contest, with teams vying for the first prize of a gift certificate to one of the participating restaurants. Many of the groups were formed then and there, with people who otherwise didn’t know one another joining up to compete together. The food was delicious and it was a wonderful opportunity to meet new neighbors or get reacquainted with old friends.
To RSVP, go to https://www.eventbrite.com/e/bloomingdale-bites-tickets-1628915212249?aff=oddtdtcreatorX. The cost (payable at the door) will be $15 for adults and $10 for anyone under fifteen. Doors will open at 6:00 p.m. and reservations will be honored only until 6:15 (after that: first come, first served), so be sure to get there on time! More info at our website (w102-103blockassn.org) and columbusamsterdambid.org. Questions? Contact [email protected]/.
We look forward to seeing you at what has become one of the most popular neighborhood events of the year!

Frequently Asked Questions about The Longest Table
What do I need to bring?
We provide the tables, chairs, and tablecloths--you bring everything else (food, drinks, plates, silverware, etc.). Creative table decoration welcome!
Can I bring or order food from local restaurants?
Yes! The Columbus-Amsterdam BID is compiling a list of local restaurants that will offer takeout or delivery. Check back here for the list when we are closer to the event date..
Can I volunteer to help?
Yes! We need volunteers! Specifically, we need table captains to host tables, people to help with setup and breakdown, greeters to check people in, photographers/videographers to capture the event, and more! Teens are welcome to join us as volunteers and may be eligible for community-service credits. To learn more, contact at [email protected].
What is a table captain?
Table captains are volunteers who act as mini-hosts. They organize a group to join their table --inviting friends, family, or work colleagues. They help figure out who is bringing what—it’s like organizing a picnic! Table captains can also be volunteers who agree to host neighbors they don’t necessarily know, who have come alone or with a friend. In all cases, the table captains help make everyone feel welcome and engaged.
Are kids welcome?
The Longest Table is for neighbors of all ages. We encourage you to bring your kids!
Do you have to be a Block Association resident to attend?
No! While this is hosted by the W. 102nd & 103rd Streets Block Association, friends, family, and neighbors are all welcome.
Can I come alone?
Yes! All are welcome to grab a seat at the table. Coming alone is a fantastic way to meet neighbors and new friends.
